Collaboration: Skit Outlines

Before we worked on storyboards, we decided to create an outline for each skit to try and solidify our ideas and get the best understanding of what’s going to happen in each scene first.

Each character has a “beginning”, “middle”, and “end” to their skit, and are points at which cutaways happen. In each beginning, each date is introduced, quickly establishing their personality and it will lead to a point where there will be a freeze-frame followed by their name being written on the screen before it cuts to the introduction of the next character. Each freeze-frame will be on a pose that captures the character’s personality/essence.

The girls are introduced in the following order: Victoria, Cici, Skye, and then Penny. As the introductions continue, Lucky seems to learn something from each previous date where he did something wrong.

Victoria:

  • Beginning: Victoria walks onscreen past Lucky (with the sound of heels on the floor) and stands beside her chair. She has her hand on her hip and is poised as if she’s waiting for something and keeps coughing to signify that she wants him to pull her chair out for her to sit down, but he doesn’t pick up on it. Her freeze-frame happens when she’s posing (possibly with a hand on her hip and an exaggerated irritated expression on her face). It then cuts to Cici’s introduction.
  • Middle: Victoria’s main sequence is the spaghetti scene; she points on the menu for them to order a shared salad meal, but Lucky instead points to the spaghetti much to her chagrin. Their food arrives and they begin eating. Lucky eats it in a manner that irritates Victoria further (since she’s trying to eat it daintily as opposed to Lucky’s clumsiness) and when going to share a meatball, flicks sauce or the meatball onto her white dress. She recoils straight away out of disgust, and it cuts away to another date after hers and Lucky’s immediate reactions.
  • End: The skit resumes exactly where the last left off. Lucky goes to wipe the sauce from Victoria’s dress but ends up knocking the candle on the table over in the process. This sets the tablecloth alight, and they both freeze (in horror and shock respectively) as the candle slowly rolls and falls off of the table. The skit ends with Victoria’s twitching angrily (potentially with the fire reflecting in her eyes to amplify the anger she’s feeling)
Cici:

  • Beginning: Cici is introduced when she walks onscreen with her stick in hand, feeling her way across the screen as she reaches her seat. Lucky seems to be quicker to move her chair this time, but when she drops her stick, he moves to catch it and fails, pulling the chair out as Cici sits which leads to her falling on the floor. Lucky helps her up onto her chair and she thanks him but she can’t see where he is, resulting in her patting him up and down, eventually reaching his face and honking his nose. This is when her freeze-frame happens, and it cuts away.
  • Middle: Cici takes Lucky’s hand and sits on her chair before he goes back to his own chair. She looks at the menu and ends up ordering something completely random (and repulsive), thinking she was pointing at something else despite Lucky’s efforts to help her find what she wants. The food comes, and as they are eating (Lucky’s mannerisms seem to have improved slightly whereas Cici is erratically stabbing at the plate). It’s then that Lucky notices a spider’s crawled onto the table; cue his reaction of fear and then a cutaway.
  • End: Lucky tries to squash the spider in the most non-suspicious way possible (and failing) by slapping the table, confusing Cici. At one point, he goes to get the spider and puts his hand on hers. She thinks it’s a sweet gesture while Lucky panics as the spider crawls onto her plate. Lucky panics but realises it’s too late as Cici accidentally eats it, causing him to gag and sink into his chair.

Skye:
  • Beginning: Skye is characterised immediately with the sound of heavy/clumping footsteps. Lucky is visibly taken aback by her height but rushes to take the chair out for her regardless. As she sits, she drops her bag and Lucky catches it, but is left in a position with his arms crossing over one another in a painfully awkward fashion. Skye is left oblivious to this as Lucky sits opposite her, and he’s wincing and rubbing his arm. Skye then smiles and absent-mindedly pulls a twig out of her hair, flicking it onto the table – this is her freeze-frame before it cuts away.
  • Middle: They order their food. Lucky has a regular ice-cream and Skye’s is a sundae with toppings stacked on one another; it’s so tall that he has to look around it to see her. As he does so, he leans too far and ends up falling off of his chair and onto the floor. Skye seems ultimately oblivious as she tucks into her food.
  • End: As he Lucky struggles to clamber back to his feet, he ends up yanking the tablecloth and pulling everything off of the table, including Skye’s sundae. The sundae ends up falling onto Lucky and he is covered in it. Skye is somewhat surprised, but she picks the uneaten cherry from the mess and puts it on his head – stepping/leaning back to admire her work, she instead decides she doesn’t like it and shakes her head disapprovingly. Lucky frowns, disheartened.

Penny:

  • Beginning: Penny walks onscreen; this time, an exhausted Lucky pulls out the chair for her and takes her bag. He is successful and there are no mistakes made, but it turns out Penny knocked over the salt on the table and, as she’s superstitious, sets it back upright while throwing a pinch of it over her shoulder – directly into Lucky’s eyes. This is her freeze-frame, followed by the cutaway as Lucky reacts in pain to the salt.
  • Middle: Lucky rubs his eyes as he sits, and both of them go to order a meal. It turns out they order the same thing, and they both smile at each other before eating. Lucky, trying his hardest to eat nicely as influenced by Victoria, ends up causing a pea to fly off of his plate and over to Penny’s. She frowns, picking it up, before retaliating and flicking it back. Unfortunately, it goes directly into Lucky’s mouth and he starts choking. Penny reacts and then it cuts away.
  • End: Lucky is still choking, and Penny is panicking; just as she goes to get up to try and help him, he knocks himself in the stomach with one hand and slams a fist on the table with another. The pea is dislodged but the fist that he slams into the table sends his plate flying onto Penny and covering her in food. Lucky reacts in fear/horror, thinking he’s messed up again, but the plate slides off of Penny’s face and she starts laughing. It ends with them in pseudo food-fight as she throws something back at him. The date is evidently successful.
